CEBU INTERTRADE EXPORT

Company History

GA is proud to you a selection of most refined and rare objects made exclusively in the Island of Cebu, Philippines.

These objects are created and designed from noble materials such as the famous "Shagreen", or the "Penshell" combined with hard woods, bones and palm wood.

Shagreen is particularly called Stingray "Dasyatis Sephen" is only found in Indo PAcific waters.

The technique of making precious object using fish skin is called the "Mr. Galuchat" method.

The tradition started in Asia in the 17th century particularly in Japan where "Shargreen" was used as armor and sword hilt of the elite Samurai and made in the City of Kyoto or Nagasaki with skin coming from Vietnam and Siam.

In the 18th century the famous craftsman Mr, Galuchat introduced this technique in Europe importing skin from the south of Asia.

French King Louis the XIV, Queen Marie Antoniette and Napaleon III were the most famous collectors of Shagreen.

In the year 1930, in the "Art-Deco" period, Shargreen became very fashionable.

Because of very expensive handmade prcessing, this ancestral trdition has been relocated to Asia at the beginning of the 20th century and particularly in the Island of Cebu, Philippines.

We are proud to present to you creations made by Cebuanos with generation's experience artisans in strict respect of the ancestral method.
