WAGAS CRAFTS was formally organized and registered in the Philippines in 1998 by its sole proprietor, RITCHIE R. WAGAS. The owner was moved by the saying that “poverty is the mother of all inventions“, and in truth, his humble beginnings did inspire his dream to craft the so-called “collapsible baskets”. His beloved wife and beautiful daughter propelled him enormous strength towards complete determination and persistence. With all humility, it is his constant desire, however in small ways, to contribute something in the upliftment of the tragic living conditions among the poorest of his friends and neighbors. Thus, the making of “collapsible baskets” was born as a labor of love and commitment.
The story began when the owner started the experiment in his own backyard in Compostela, Cebu, Philippines. Almost a year thereafter, together with his wife-Debbie, they launched the first finished products in a craft fair inside a big mall in the City of Cebu during a Christmas season. The response was very high, and was then followed by successful trade shows. Now the company was able to open retail outlets all over the Philippines.
With its concept as handcrafted and handpainted product, it has gained acceptance and appreciation from people around the globe. It has continued to create innovations to the collapsible basket by introducing the anti-tilt lock to its big baskets. Additionally, it has compressed all its designs into one size thereby found convenience in “one size, one price” policy. Also, another product line was introduced which is called the “flying mobiles“. It is a bird like mobile made out of wood, and by the touch of the wind, its wings will move Up and down.
The wonders of WAGAS CRAFTS products continue to amaze all peoples from all walks of life. In doing so, it continues to give hope and uplift the well-being of the locals within its community.
